Mary Polly Flack Nanney (dates I have are 1808-1878) was the daughter of Andrew Flack (ca. 1773-1865). Andrew Flack is buried at Mountain Creek Baptist Church in Rutherford County, and it is interesting that his grave is at the foot of and perpendicular to his wives/daughters. One explanation for this is that he did not wish to show preference to any of his three wives, another that he wanted to be buried facing north with an axe in his hand so that on Judgment Day he'd come up fighting the damn Yankees. His will survives in the County court records but it was rejected by the Court because he had only one witness. Andrew Flack's father was John Flack (b. ? - d. 1792). He settled in Rutherford (actually then Tryon Co.) by 1778 where he bought land on Cathy's Creek. He was apparently tight with the Whigs and was appointed a JP before the end of the Revolution -- I think you can join the DAR on him. In records he is referred to as a "squire" or "esquire," which suggests that he had power and influence. He died intestate and his estate was a bit of a mess. As for his origins, I don't think anyone can say conclusively (you can take with a grain of salt all that James Flack/Bucks Co. PA stuff which I'm frankly sick of reading about on the internet). At any rate, I hope this helps. Regards, Tim Cole
